Venus

Sweltering industrial ground where the solar infrastructure actually gets built.

Second planet out from Sol, and in the Bobiverse nobody ever sets up a town there. Venus is industrial property first and everything else second — thick, punishing, and treated as exactly that. Earth carries the 'home planet' emotional weight, Mars takes the first real off-world colonies, and Venus just holds its strategic spot in the inner solar system while energy infrastructure gets routed past it. It starts mattering more once the von Neumann probe network is scaling up, because that's when Venus pulls double duty as the load-bearing spine of the whole expansion.

Lore & Background

Despite its lack of human presence, Venus remains a symbol of humanity's reach into the harsher corners of their home system. It stands as a testament to the transition from biological expansion to technological dominance, where machines thrive in environments that would instantly kill organic life.

In Their Own Story

The mining drone hovered above the sulfuric clouds, its sensors calibrating against the heat haze. Below, the surface was a silent ocean of rock under pressure enough to crush steel. There were no cities here, only the rhythmic hum of extraction rigs feeding the Swarm. A single probe from Bob's network passed overhead, heading outward toward the stars, leaving Venus behind as just another brick in the foundation of humanity's light.

Reader's Guide

Physically, Venus retains its canonical status as a hostile world with an atmosphere thick enough to crush standard vessels and temperatures that melt lead. Unlike Mars, which saw terraforming efforts and human colonies, Venus was bypassed for habitation due to these extreme conditions.

Culturally, there is no indigenous or colonial society here. The 'population' consists entirely of automated mining drones and maintenance bots designed to withstand the corrosive environment. These machines operate with minimal supervision, extracting materials essential for the Dyson Swarm construction.

Strategically, Venus is vital for its orbital position relative to Sol. It provides a staging ground for energy collection and material processing that supports the broader Bob network. The unique technological features include high-temperature resistant infrastructure and automated logistics chains that function without human intervention.
